Packaging Design, NECCO Wafers

An American Classic
NECCO® Wafers, believe it or not, had a pretty big fan following. Do to popular demand, we made an exclusive Candy Cane Edition consisting of only peppermint wafers that were available during the holiday season. The design is holiday-classic yet cheerful at the same time.

Sweet But Sour
Sour Wafers consist of 6 tart flavors. The sour flavors already existed within our Sweethearts Brand and were very popular so we came out with sour wafers a year later. I kept the design simple but bold, fun and colorful to create a feeling of pleasure and indulgence.

Gingerbread House Decorating
This was concept art I made for our holiday season. The idea was to have the junior rolls have character wraps (snowmen, reindeer, elfs, Santa) so that when you are decorating your gingerbread house you can use the characters or you can unwrap and use the wafers for the roof, walkway, etc…

Freak Frappe Collaboration
I put together a collaboration with Boston Burger to become one of their monthly special frappes in 2018.

Some history. Some good news.
NECCO® Wafers were created in 1847 by Oliver Chase who invented the first American candy machine, a lozenge cutter. As of 2017, approximately 630 million NECCO® Wafers were made each year. Placed edge to edge, they would go around the world twice!
Unfortunately, The New England Confectionery Company, owners of this iconic brand closed their doors in the summer of 2018. But there’s good news… I am happy to report that these chalky-sweet discs are back in business under another name as of winter 2020.
